The Park is in the southern part of the state, near the Maryland border. The Visitor Center is 1/2 mile from Gettysburg on PA 134 (Taneytown Road) near the intersection of US 15 (Emmitsburg Road).
WHEN TO VISIT
Open year round. Peak visitor month is July. Climate: Winter, 24 to 44 degrees F; Summer, 78 to 88 degrees F.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The great Civil War battle fought here July 1 to 3, 1863, repulsed the second Confederate invasion of the North. Gettysburg National Cemetery--more than 7,000 interments, 1,668 unidentified--adjoins the Park. At the dedication of the cemetery, November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered his timeless Gettysburg Address.
